British Columbia Taekwon-Do Network
Promoting Unity Across The Taekwon-Do Community
The BCTKDN was founded in 2025 with the goal of facilitating support, cooperation, and growth for all B.C. practitioners of original style of Taekwon-Do as shared by the original Pioneers; preserving the art for future generations. The BCTKDN is not an oversight body, rather, a group of like-minded instructors banding together to support one another and help continue the original vision of spreading Taekwon-Do through the province.
BCTKDN strives to support members in various ways;

-
Growing student base
-
Curriculum support if needed
-
Promotional testing support
-
Supporting Events (such as tournaments and seminars)
Core Beliefs
-
Recognizing the original 24 patterns as created and executed by General Choi, Hong Hi and the original Pioneer Masters
-
Following the Tenets of Taekwon-Do
-
Maintaining basic etiquette within the school
Finances
The BCTKDN is run on a strictly volunteer basis. There are no dues or fees required for membership. The mission of the BCTKDN is to promote and support member schools. To accomplish this: unity, communication, and mutual assistance are needed, not money.
Promotional Test/Seminars
When a member school needs support with a promotional test; it is traditional etiquette to cover the costs of travel, accommodation, and meals of the examiner. If the host schools wishes to make a donation to the examiner, it should be done so as not to cause financial distress to the host.
Tournaments/Special Events
Instructors travelling to a location for a tournament or special event are expected to cover their own travel expenses.

Curriculum
As independent instructors, you are free to teach in whatever way is best suited for your members. If you require assistance or feedback, please just ask and we will be glad to provide information and even share our own requirements.
The original Pioneers focused on:
-
Basic Techniques
-
Patterns
-
Sparring
-
Breaking for power
Promotional Testing
Colour Belt Testing is to be completed by the school owner/chief instructor following their own testing requirements.
Black Belts are eligible to test up to 2 ranks below their current rank,
-
4th Dan can test up to 2nd dan without any support needed.
-
Testing fees are determined by the School Owner.
-
Testing requirements are set by the examiner with input from the school owner.
-
Certificate to be signed by the examiner should be provided by the school owner.
-
For those wishing to issue a BCTKDN branded certificate (rather than using their own school certificates) a template will be available for use at no charge.
Events
Conference Calls
Unity requires communication. To facilitate this, a video conference (using Zoom) for all members will be scheduled every 3 months, or more often as needed. Members are asked to attend the calls whenever possible. All members will be free to bring up any topic to the group for discussion.
Tournaments
The BCTKDN believes healthy competition is a great way to test students’ skills. We will aid in organizing and officiating 2-3 local events each year. These events need to follow local rules and regulations to ensure the safety of athletes. Funding for the tournament is to be done through entry fees and (if necessary) local sponsorships and fundraising initiatives.

Instructor’s Conference
The BCTKDN believes Networking is a vital way to keep instructors/school owners developing the skills needed to spread Taekwon-Do. An annual conference will be organized to cover topics such as: Growing your school financially, introducing more people to Taekwon-Do as the Pioneers did, and developing technical skills for presenting your curriculum.
Attendance at this conference will be available to all school owners, masters, and assistant instructors from each school. Any costs required to put on this event (such as accommodations and food) will come from registration fees if needed. All travel costs will be the individual responsibility of each attendee.
Mutual Support
When a member school puts on an event (such as a tournament or large grading) BCTKDN members are asked to support and attend these events in any way they can.
This support mentality should extend to knowledge and connections. Each school must be willing to help any other Taekwon-Do practitioner or instructor whenever it is within their ability to do so. This may take the form of assisting with belt promotions (when requested) or simply being available to answer questions over the phone.
All assistance should be provided without looking for financial gain from one another. This does not mean everything should be done for free, but rather that any costs should be reasonable in the circumstances and kept to a minimum. Examples of this principle are:
-
If a fellow member is looking for a template for a certificate, or ideas for curriculum, such knowledge should be shared freely.
-
If a member is seeking assistance with a rank promotion, then travel/meal costs and grading fees should be covered for the examiner who is providing the assistance.
Conclusion
Thank you for your contributions in promoting Taekwon-Do and your interest in the BCTKDN. We hope that you will join our efforts to preserve and continue the legacy passed down to us; supporting one another and growing the original style of Taekwon-Do throughout the Province.
Respectfully,
The Members of BCTKDN
